In legal English, the word ‘Practice’ can have several different meanings:
1) Custom or habit.
Example: “It is the practice in the industry to confirm orders before shipping.”
2) The procedural methods and rules used in a court of law.
Example: “Local practice requires that an extra copy of each motion be filed with the cleark.”
3) Also practice of law or legal practice: The professional work of a duly licensed lawyer, encompassing a broad range of services, such as conducting cases in court, preparing papers necessary to bring about various transactions, preparing legal opinions on various points of law, drafting wills and other estate-planning documents, and advising clients on legal questions.
4) A legal business.
Example: “Her law practice is located on 4th street.”
